Have you ever...?
Have you ever looked at a work of art and felt inexplicably drawn to it? I have, many times. Although, it's been a while since I've felt this way. The last time was probably three years ago when I first visited NYC.
This time, I was at the gym, scrolling through my RSS feed when I came across this post from Lilly Ashton where she shares pages from her sketchbook. One in particular stuck out to me:

Sketch by Lilly Ashton
If I could, I would hang it in the Louvre for everybody to see, but since I can't, I guess I'll frame it here. I like how the transparency of the onion skin paper allows for the drawings underneath to peak through. Most look as if they were drawn independently of one another, but not this one.
Unlike the others, it is visually cohesive, resulting in a composition that is compelling. The white silhouette of the figure creates a window that looks out onto a nightscape. There, under the stars, the same figure can be seen frolicking through a field of flowers with a friend.
It inspires in me this bittersweet feeling, not unlike longing.
I don't know how else to explain it. It's simply incredible.
